Bobby Whitlock, Co-Creator of Layla Album, Dies at 77

Bobby Whitlock, a musician best known for working with Eric Clapton in Derek and the Dominos, has died at age 77. His wife, Coco Carmel Whitlock, said he rose from extreme poverty in the South to great success and always believed in making life beautiful. She said goodbye with the words, “Farewell my Love, I’ll see you in my dreams.”

Whitlock is survived by his wife and three children: Ashley Faye Brown, Beau Elijah Whitlock, and Tim Whitlock Kelly. Clapton called him a dear friend and offered condolences to his family. Filmmaker John Fusco praised him as a rock legend, storyteller, and later, a talented painter. Whitlock’s art was displayed in a Texas museum in 2022, and in recent years, his wife shared YouTube videos of them talking about music and life, often with his paintings in the background.
